Welcome to UNI's Project Blog, where our members share a more personal look into our journey.
Today, UNI members volunteered at the 38th annual @aidswalkla. Our team included swimmers from the Rose Bowl Aquatics that are a part of UNI’s branches at San Marino, Loyola, Cathedral, and Burbank High School. Participating in the annual AIDS Walk, UNI Future Together and its members ran all the water stations and volunteer booths, taking part in a large portion of the volunteer force and contributing to the success of the event.
Aids Walk LA first started in 1985, and since then, hundreds of thousands of walkers and their supporters have raised more than $92 million to combat HIV and AIDS. These funds are a vital lifeline that sustains APLA Health’s programs and services benefiting more than 16,000 individuals living in Los Angeles County. By supporting the walk, UNI strives to be an active participant in the fight to end HIV & AIDS in LA County.
Giving back to our LA community, we partnered up with Alexandria house and World Harvest Food Bank to serve food and necessities to the locals. By providing foodstuffs, baby formula, hand santizer, and juices, we were able to bring smiles to the faces of the people we interacted with.
While our page is being put up: In preparation for our upcoming computer donation to Glendale Community College and Pasadena Community College, two of our members from our Access Ed Tech Project cleaned, reset, fixed, and redownloaded OS's onto our 14 desktop pc's for this second round of donations. This second round will result in over 11,000 dollars donated by Access Ed Tech and our first publicized computer donation!!!
Today, our Food Service and Necessity project worked together to gather food items from the World Harvest Food Bank to donate to members of the LA community. Gathering necessities such as packaged fruits and vegetables, bread, canned and bottled drinks, packaged snacks, diapers, and hand sanitizer, we created care bags to hand deliver to people in need.
Driving around Los Angeles and stopping by at our partner Alexandria House, we spent the day working with the LA community, children, parents, and the unhoused, to ensure they all recieved the food and necessities they needed.
