UNI First Official Food Service Donation

Commencing our first food service donation, UNI Future Together went to Alexandria House and the LA Solar Pantry with large food and book donations coming from the World Harvest Food Bank and local supermarkets. This food amounted to 750 dollars and weighed close to 400 pounds (almost breaking a car).

The First Donation Spot was Alexandria House which is, "a transitional home for women and children located in Los Angeles, California. Since 1996, Alexandria House has been a community-oriented transitional house and neighborhood center which is intentionally multicultural, anti-racist, and where the needs of women who are economically poor are central"(https://www.alexandriahouse.org/). Located on, 426 S Alexandria Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90020, we stopped by to drop off pre-prepared rice, chicken, beef, donuts, and essential household items for the various families living there.

The Second Donation Spot was at one of the various Los Angeles Solar Pantries spread across cities in the LA District and extending up to Orange County. These fridges are a communal ground to donate and receive food, and the effect is immediately seen as many

residents in the area wait for donations to come by such as ours. The foods go to many hungry mouths and there is close to no waste, making solar pantries excellent for the most effective use of food donations. Food Banks and Organizations' food donations have been found to leave a lot of waste due to many standards and accessibility, which has led us to prefer communal areas where food is more easily passed.
